Mamta Sharma, Singer, Converted to Islam





Mamta Sharma is quite popular Indian singer particularly for her husky voice. She is ruling the Indian chartbuster since last 8 years owing to her scintillating performances when it comes to item numbers. The story started with Munni Badman Hui when she was appreciated by music lovers and even had bagged Filmfare Award.


But, there is another side of this talented singer. That is her religion. Many people still believe that Mamta Sharma is a Brahmin girl who belong to Gwalior region of Madhya Pradesh. But, that is not the complete picture. She is no more a Hindu, leave alone being a Brahman. 





She is a Muslim, by choice or by compulsion – may be, not by force.


When Mamta Sharma made some name as a stage singer in Gwalior, she decided to go to Mumbai in search of more opportunity. In Mumbai, she struggled and then fell in love with a Muslim guy. Instantly, she decided to convert.



How Mamta Sharma Converted to Islam

 

In 2005, Mamta Sharma became a paying guest in Mumbai. The house was owned by none other than Ashraf Ali, who was also trying his best to make a mark in the Bollywood as a lyricist. 


Ashraf Ali and Mamta Sharma became close friend and later started to see each other. They got married in 2011. 


When Mamta Sharma asked her parents for permission, they only suggested her to not convert to Islam. However, the parents of Ashraf Ali had put forth a condition that Mamta will have to convert if she wants to get married with Ashraf Ali. 


Mamta decided to convert.


In an interview to The Times of India, she said that the conversion was not forced. She became a Muslim by her own will.
