Meenakshi Lekhi is a firebrand BJP politician. She is currently representing New Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency. In 2014, she had won from high profile New Delhi constituency by a whooping margin of 4. 5 lakh votes. Apart from a politician, Ms. Lekhi is also a successful Supreme Court lawyer. She got the lime light as the national spokesperson of the BJP. However, recently the party has curtailed her appearance on Television News debate shows. She is also quite popular on Social Media like Twitter.

Meenakshi was born on April 30, 1967 in New Delhi. She was a brilliant girl from a middle class family. The economic issues couldn’t stop her from getting higher education. She has done B. Sc. in Botany from the prestigious Hindu College, Delhi University. Later, she did L.L.B. from DU. She got enrolled with the Bar Council in 1990 and since then practicing in the Supreme Court of India. She has fought many landmark cases on women issues in the SC. Further, she was also part of the drafting committee for various women related bills, like Women’s Reservation Bill and Sexual Harassment at the WorkPlace Bill.

As mentioned above, Meenakshi came from a traditional middle class family. Her father was not even ready to spend money on her. In fact, her initial dream of becoming a doctor was aborted because her father refused to give money. 


In this context, it is surprising that Meenakshi had a love marriage. Her husband is Aman Lekhi, a noted lawyer of Supreme Court and the son of famous Prem Nath Lakhi. Meenakshi met Aman while canvassing for a candidate in the Bar Council Election. Aman was also canvassing for an opposition leader. Meenakshi was impressed with the intelligence as well as richness of Aman, who was a millionaire.

She befriended her and they soon fell in love. When Meenakshi asked her parents for permission, they readily got agreed because of the profile of Aman Lekhi. 


It should also be noted that Aman Lekhi had defended RSS man Indresh Kumar in the Mecca Maszid Blast case in 2007. During this time, many top RSS and BJP leaders used to visit his home. Meenakshi also got close to many of them and later used these links as a step to become a prominent BJP leader. 


Please be aware that Meenakshi Lekhi father was not a lawyer and hence there is no question of him defending Nothu Ram Godse, as claimed by AAP supporters.


Later Prem Nath Lekhi who was famous for taking the cause of the killer of Indira Gandhi and also fighting for Zahira Sheikh was the father in law of Meenakshi Lekhi.
There is no information on the public domain about the children of Meenakshi Lekhi. 


According to one source, she has one son and one daughter. However, that is not confirmed. She might be protecting to privacy of her children which is fine.
